Center's Research Grows to Include 65 Projects
The ICT started as an innovative partnership between the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). Building on this firm foundation, the ICT has grown considerably in the two and a half years since its inception and currently partners with several other universities and agencies worldwide.ICT currently supports 65 research projects, 47 researchers, and 54 graduate students. ICT Director Imad Al-Qadi reports, "Eleven projects have been completed, and another 54 projects are going strong. In the past quarter we have added seven research projects." The new projects include documenting the performance of the I-57 recycled concrete pavement (PI Jeff Roesler, UIUC); examining the safety impacts of various highway shoulder attributes in Illinois (PI Zongzhi Li, Illinois Institute of Technology); and developing an online training course regarding Context Sensitive Solutions (PI James Hall, University of Illinois at Springfield).
It was the original vision of ICT to serve the needs of IDOT, the State of Illinois, and the nation through research, education, and outreach, and the ICT continues to follow this vision with its current lineup of projects.
