The Illinois Center for Transportation (ICT) Executive Committee held its spring meeting on April 8, 2008, in Springfield, Illinois and decided to fund 17 new research ideas.

Some examples of the varied research topics the Executive Committee approved include: the behavior of senior travelers and application to transportation planning, the evaluation of wireless detection systems at railroad crossings and signalized intersections, and mechanical-empirical design implementation and monitoring for both rigid and flexible pavements.

At the Executive Committee meeting, ICT Director Imad Al-Qadi summarized the progress on the 65 research projects funded from August 2005 until the meeting. Al-Qadi told the Executive Committee that 13 projects were completed and 52 others were in progress.

The newly approved research totals almost $3.8 million and brings the total approved ICT projects to 82.

At least four of the newly approved research projects, with an estimated cost of $940,000 will be outsourced to other universities or private researchers.

ICT will post the RFPs for the projects to be outsourced on its website http://www.ict.uiuc.edu in early May.
