Korean Institute of Construction Technology Hosts ICT Directors

The Korean Institute of Construction Technology (KICT) invited ICT Director Imad Al-Qadi and ICT Associate Director Sam Carpenter as the distinguished speakers for its annual lecture series during the week of March 24.

Al-Qadi presented on "Accuracy of Load Pulse Simulation in the New Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide," and Carpenter presented on "Advances in Energy/Damage Considerations in Fatigue of Asphalt Concrete" to an audience of nearly 300 Korean engineers and invited guests. Al-Qadi later gave another lecture on "Reflective Cracking Mechanism and Mitigation Techniques."

In addition to giving lectures, the ICT directors enjoyed touring the test road of the Korean Highway Construction Company, learning about Dr. J. Gee's research on permeable pavements to alter runoff characteristics, reuniting with several UIUC alumni who work for the KICT, and visiting several attractions in the Seoul area.
